Well.... Actually I just looked at it and the CD that I've been trying to install XP off of is home edition, however on my dad's receipt it says media center edition... So there's a possibility that I've been using the wrong disc for his machine, however, I've read the ctrl+F11 thing multiple times on the internet and tried it every single time. Do I do it at the loading screen or what... Because that's never worked. Thanks a ton!
Fortunately, Microsoft has backed away ever so slightly from that position by giving away free WMC keys to users until January 31, 2013. You will still need to pony up for the Pro version of Windows 8, but at least you will not have to pay for the add-on pack to get what is essentially the same media center that is available in Windows 7.

I tried using the generic product key of Win 8.1 and it actually was approved by the recovery media installer by windows, but when I've proceeded to the next step, it always states, "WE CAN't CONNECT RIGHT NOW. CHECK YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION AND TRY AGAIN LATER." Is there a problem?? My internet connection is just fine and has a fair speed of 3mpbs. =(

What are you trying to do?If installing with Windows 8.0 media you shouldn't have to enter a product key if its a Windows 8.0 key.If installing with Windows 8.1 media you will need to enter a generic Windows 8.1 product key to install if its a Windows 8.0 key.If installing with Windows 8.1 media you shouldn't have to enter a product key if its a Windows 8.1 key.If installing with Windows 8.0 media you will need to enter a generic Windows 8.0 product key to install if its a Windows 8.1 key.If you install with a generic product key after installation you need to use change key and activate with your Windows 8.0 key. If your license is OEM you need to find out the key with RW-Everything before going to change key.If updating from the Store you should not be prompted for a product key.If trying to download Windows 8.1 media then see here: -microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/download-windows-8-1-iso/
You can try following the instructions here: -clean-install-of-windows/windows-media-center/I haven't tested this but this might be difficult as Microsoft have made Windows 8.0 keys incompatible with Windows 8.1 media during installation.
I have used the mediacreationtool to download windows 8.1 update iso 64bit and it worked with a oem dell key . -microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/download-windows-8-1-retail-and-oem-iso/
There is no way of deleting the OEM key from the BIOS, it'd be too dangerous. However there is a means of bypassing the OEM product key by adding an ei.cfg and pid.txt file to the installation media. See here: -microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/download-windows-8-1-retail-and-oem-iso/You may use your actual Professional key opposed to the generic Professional key. 2ff7e9595c
